30th CEMS ANNUAL EVENTS - Malta 2018

The Annual Events, hosted in Malta, welcomed a new CEMS Academic Member, a new CEMS Chair, new Honorary Members and celebrated 2 CEMS Alumni of the Year, Courses and school of the year as well as the graduation of over a thousand students across the globe.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business will be the first business school in the US to join CEMS – the Global Alliance in Management Education

“We are very pleased to collaborate with CEMS as the first business school in the United States on the launch of the CEMS Master’s in International Management (MIM),” said Joe Thomas, Interim Dean of the SC Johnson College of Business.

“We believe the CEMS Master’s in International Management (MIM) will be a differentiator for students studying at Cornell and allow for career acceleration, deep learning and career opportunities across the globe,” said Lynn Wooten, Dean of the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.

Roland Siegers, Executive Director of CEMS, said: “We are delighted to welcome Cornell SC Johnson College of Business as our first and currently only academic member in the US. The SC Johnson College is a fantastic institution, deeply aligned with the values of CEMS – to prepare responsible leaders for a more open, sustainable and inclusive world.”

First non-European chair of prestigious tertiary alliance commits to “education without borders”

“Education without borders, which produces highly skilled and culturally aware global citizens, offers an opportunity to blunt the worldwide trend towards nationalism, protectionism and political division”, according to the new Australian Chair of the CEMS Global Alliance, Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, Professor Greg Whitwell.

Professor Whitwell, the first non-European Chair of CEMS, succeeds Professor Eugenia Bieto, the Director General of Barcelona’s ESADE Business School. Professor Whitwell praised Professor Bieto’s leadership of the CEMS Alliance over the past two years and said it was a great honour to be following in her footsteps.

Honorary Members inducted into CEMS

Pierre Semal, LSM; Dorte Salskov Iversen, CBS; Thomas Bieger, HSG; and Andrea Sironi, UB were awarded Honorary CEMS Membership by Eugenia Bieto, Werner Delfmann and Jean Paul Larçon, respectively outgoing chair and Honorary members.

Graduation and the election of the Alumni of the Year

The CEMS Graduation Ceremony at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre with 1241 Students of 63 nationalities, receiving their diploma both on and off stage was a huge success.

The CEMS Alumni Association (CAA) introduced the winners of the Alumni of the Year Award as Maximilian Tayenthal (senior leadership category) and Akilnathan Logeswaran (young leadership category). Tayenthal attended WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business), HEC Paris, and the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, graduating from the CEMS programme in 2004. Logeswaran attended WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) as well as Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, graduating from the CEMS MIM programme in 2015.

The graduation ceremony also included the announcement of the winners for the 2017-2018 MIM awards of the year including:
