 Services and Facilities

Health insurance:

All exchange students are required to pay for UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan) coverage. UHIP is MANDATORY for all international students studying in Ontario.

Check the coverage at www.uhip.ca

UHIP covers most doctor visits but doesn’t include any supplemental coverage for things such as prescriptions medications. Due to this, I would strongly encourage you to look into supplemental health insurance or see if the health coverage you currently have will cover you while in Canada. If you on traveling outside of Canada, it is strongly recommended to purchase private Health Insurance (for Visitors to Canada or Travel Insurance) for that time period.

Additional information can be found: http://www.sdc.uwo.ca/int/services/?uhip

Visa:

Please check the Canadian Immigration website to see whether you need to apply for a study permit. Students carrying passports from some countries are exempt. You may still need to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa.

This information is detailed on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.asp

If arriving from the United States please ensure that you have the appropriate entry and exit documents. Canada and the United States have completely separate visa requirements. Entry in to one does not permit entry in to the other and indeed can complicate your requirements.

Housing:

For information on finding housing in London, ON please visit:
http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/international/CEMS/CEMS%20Housing.htm

Student Residences - Students visiting Ivey on exchange can apply to live in one of the Student Residences, but you need to be aware that residences at Western are reserved for 1st year university students with very few upper year students living in them. You will need your Western Student Number and PIN in order to apply. These will be sent to you in early July.

Off Campus Housing - Western is located in a residential area of London with many off campus housing opportunities available close to campus; as such most students choose to live off campus after their first year of university.

Other facilities:

State of the art -- library services, internet cafe, cafés, restaurants, student organisations, bookstores, recreational facilities are all on the UWO campus, and many within Ivey. Classes are held in the new Ivey building.

Internet Access: Wireless internet connections including LEAF email address are available to all Ivey students and exchange students.

Laptop computers: Ivey students are required to have a laptop computer available for all classes. Exchange students are not required to have a laptop. If an exchange student owns a laptop, they should bring it to Ivey.

Orientation / CEMS Club and other Student Clubs:

Orientation in January begins with the Exchange Student Welcome before classes begin. All exchange students should arrange to be in London, Canada by that date in order to become familiar with their surroundings, bus service, campus locations, etc. The academic year does not allow for much more organized orientation, however, the Exchange Coordinator and the Exchange Committees are always available.
