[RDE] Research & Doctoral Education

CEMS Research & Doctoral Education Activities (RDE). DEEP@CEMS (Doctoral Education & Early Career Programme, Targeted at PhD Students).

At its meeting in February 2009, the Strategic Board Meeting agreed that CEMS should strive towards realising its potential for collaboration in the field of doctoral education, thus adding further value to the CEMS alliance.  Building on previous years’ mapping of shared concerns in the doctoral field, and energised by the participation of its members in the Committee’s work, the R&DE Committee’s meetings since have been dedicated to advancing this agenda. The acronym DEEP for DoctoralEducation and Early-Career Programme – is the result of the Committee’s deliberations.

The R&DE Committee recommends that CEMS leverage its collective resources in the field of doctoral education in order to offer tomorrow’s scholars in the field of business the best possible conditions for launching an academic career, inside and outside CEMS.

Collaboration is a means to an end, a means to achieving excellence in everything we do in the field of doctoral education: recruitment, delivery of programme, research, publishing, mobility and placement. In other words, the only currency that works (and will work) when setting out to intensify collaboration in this area is excellent research quality as evidenced by strict admission criteria for doctoral students, high quality publications by supervisors and other academic staff involved in doctoral education, and eventually, the caliber of the doctoral students themselves as they enter the job market.
